Check whether the information is still on the page

Open the exact result and inspect the current source. An article from years ago may still be live and unchanged. That is different from a deleted passage appearing in a stale search description. The outdated-content process addresses the mismatch, not every piece of information that feels old.

Use the exact URL

Record the destination address rather than only the text displayed in the search result. Redirects, mobile versions and similar URLs can complicate the review. Keep notes about the page you checked and when. The more precisely you identify the source and change, the easier it is to select the right request.

If you control the page

Update or remove the underlying information first and review the appropriate search-management options for your website. Changes may take time to be reflected in search. Be careful with site-wide indexing settings: a broad change can hide useful pages as well as the one you intended to address.

If someone else controls the page

Ask the publisher to correct the source when the information is inaccurate. If it has already changed or disappeared, review Google’s official refresh process for outdated content. If the unwanted information is still present, consider whether a separate policy request applies instead.

Track the result without assuming permanence

Keep the request reference and compare the current page with the result after review. Search systems can revisit pages, and copies may remain accessible. A successful refresh does not establish that all information about a subject has been removed.

When the request does not fit

A truthful live article or current unfavorable opinion is not transformed into stale search data by age alone. Consider a correction, an eligible privacy route or an accurate content strategy. Avoid services that use the word outdated as a blanket promise of deletion.
